Bob continued to live for another 7 years although we had given up our carefree lifestyle because of the doctor's prediction. They don't always know. We wished many times that we had not listened and kept on traveling. He died on June 10, 2019. So it is now just Judy. So now I am living the life of a widow and maybe I will start writing again about widowhood and the trials of that life style. It is lonely but you can survive. Just stay busy. Do things with your friends. There will always be a hole in your heart as you will always miss them but life can go on.

Judy

Bob and Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15276284334125524020noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3859866159554500761.post-87705827819145958682012-07-01T13:15:00.000-07:002012-07-01T13:15:38.087-07:00God has presented a road block in our lives!Hello Everyone: Sorry it has been so long since our last post but God has changed our lives since then and we have been very busy adjusting to his changes. Due to Bob's health we will no longer be on the road. He is not getting stronger and is very weak. The doctor's have told us it is only a matter of time as there is nothing further they can do for him as his heart is too weak to even attempt a stint. However, they have also admitted that they are not the ones in charge here as too how much longer he will live, only the Good Lord above will make that call. However, both of his doctors are very blunt in that the future does not look good.

We have moved into an appartment and put the RV and the Tow truck on the market. We are anxious to give someone out there a good buy on a Fifth Wheel. We are getting a lot of calls on our truck but we can't sell it until the RV is sold. So, we are awaiting someone to step forward and decide our Montana is just what they need. Adjusting to apartment life is different but it is very quiet here and there is no lawn care or maintenance to do. We just pick up the phone when we need something fixed. Since Bob can no longer do that sort of thing and our house is leased until March 1, 2014, we decided that an apartment was the best route for us to go. We just need some furniture as we sold all of ours when we moved into the RV and went on the road. We will slowly acquire in time but much thanks to Bob's brother, Bill, who brought down a load of stuff to loan us until we get the stuff we need.

We have decided to be cremated and our ashes deposited in the new Crematorium that our curch is building. We will be pre-planning Bob's funeral in a couple of weeks as we desire to bypass the expensivc funeral homes and just have the familty direct the funeral with the help of our church's funeral advisor on staff. After all the use of our church is free for both visitation and the funeral mass. So, why make the funeral directors rich - our children can use that money once we're both gone.

So there won't be any travels to write about in the future. But, I will try to still post occasionally in the future so all of you who have been our faithful readers will know what is happening.
Hospital! Hospital!Well folks here we are over a month later still sitting in Tuscaloosa, AL. There will be no Wisconsin as we had to give up our contract with the Corps of Engineers. Bob did get his defibilater changed out due to dying batteries on April 19th in time for us to meet our work start date. However, 3 days later, he had a heart attack and that changed everything. They did another heart cath while he was in the hospital and things don't look good for the future. Got lots of decisions to be made. We know we're going to have to modify our travels a little bit but still want to live in the RV and move around some.

On May 9th, he ended back up in the hospital with an infection which kept him in the hospital for a week. He came home yesterday but is still very weak. So will sit where we are for another two weeks (that'll make 2 months) and then decide if we want to move the RV to another park in the area. On the good side here is 2 of our 3 children came home during this time. It sure was nice to see them.

Judy's tooth could not be saved so she had dental surgery between Bob's second and third hospital stays. I am also having some back problems so have been trying to go to physical therapy. However, with a bone spur, arthritis and scoliosis it looks like I am just going to have to learn to live with it - good days and bad days with short travel days.

And now on to our dog, Berry, we learned that she is now suffering with kidney insufficiency. That means lots of pills for her and a special diet. Oh well, she is 13 years old so guess it is time for some health problems to start appearing.

I really don't mean to be so depressing but that's just the way things have been since returning to T-town. However, we know God is in charge and he will take care of things. We definitely are trying to keep a positive attitude knowing that things will work out for the best.

We would appreciate your Prayers.

Later, Judy & BobBob and Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15276284334125524020noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3859866159554500761.post-21154935505264559672012-04-09T09:48:00.000-07:002012-04-09T09:48:42.656-07:00Back to AlabamaYes, here we are back at Tuscaloosa, AL. We arrived last Monday evening and hit the camp site a running. Got lots of business and doctors to see while we are here.

First of all let me say that Bob got his splint off his broken wrist bone on Monday afternoon, 3/26, before we left New Mexico on 3/27. The doctor also gave him a cortizone shot in his wrist that afternoon to help relieve the pain from arthristis that had set up from an old injury to hopefully help him with the driving. Also, I had been sick our last week there with an abcessed tooth. I mean the whole right side of my head was swollen and in intense pain. Finally got a dentist to see me and the good news was the tooth could be saved. So, he started a root canal - drilled into the nerve and packed it with antibotics and filled over until I could get back to my normal dentist since we were heading here anyway. He also gave me a week's supply of antibotics to take. Never took so many pain pills in my life. I don't usually take much in the way of pain pills but this required them.

Actually, we didn't leave New Mexico on the 27th but left Alamagordo and traveled to Carlsbad for a couple of nights. While there we spent Wednesday at Carlsbad Caverns National Park. We thoroughly enjoyed that. We toured the entire "big room" using the audio guides. Sure were tired and thankful that we had decided we were not physically able to do one of the more physical guided tours. The "Big Room" is really something to see and is free if you have the "Golden Age Passport" which we did. That thing has paid for itself many, many times over.

We left there on Thursday and drove to an area near Kerrville, TX, where we spent the night in a beautiful little campground nestled in a pecan grove. Wonderfully quiet and peaceful and had grass. Berry, our dog, thought she had died and gone to heaven. Their daily rate was kind of on the expensive side but we used Passport America for our one night stay which made it reasonable. The name of the park escapes me at the moment.

On Friday, we drove on in to San Antonio where we stayed at Hidden Valley RV Park using Passport America again. This park is kind of out in the country away from town but was very adequate for our two night stay and the owners were wonderful - very nice people. Terri even told us about an all day tour of San Antonio that would come out and pick us up at the RV and deliver us back there at the end of the day. She even made the reservations on it for us. So on Saturday, we took the Alamo Tours Grand Tour of San Antonio. If you are pushed for time, haven't been there before and don't know your way around, I would highly recommend this tour. We started with the Riverwalk and rode the boat ride there which took us all thru the riverwalk area. From there we rode out to a park which had a Japenese Tea Garden. After that we went back into town to visit a Saloon (from the 1880's) and Museum. The Museum was quite large and interesting. It had pictures created from rattlesnack rattlers the original saloon owner's wife had created. During this stop we also found a place to have lunch on our own and visited the Alamo which was only about 3 blocks away from the museum. There we reboarded the bus and visited a couple of the different original catholic church missions that were built here before the town of San Antonio and then we went to the Mexican Market. That was quite interesting with all the wares, both upper and lower end. There really wasn't enough time to thoroughly enjoy this so would like to go back there someday. Sunday morning, we went to church and then pulled back out on the road headed east. We actually drove to Sulpher, LA, where we finally pulled into a Wal Mart and spent the night. Had company as there were 3 other RV's parked in there. The next day we actually drove all the way in to Tuscaloosa. It was almost a relief to know we had gotten home. However, I will probably be more than ready to leave by the time we can depart.

On Tuesday, we spent the day getting home set up so we could be comfortable during our stay. And then, Wednesday, we went into the ICD Clinic so the nurse could check Bob's batteries and speed up the pacing to try to get them to go ahead and die so we can meet our schedule. Yes, Bob's ICD batteries are dying so he has to get them replaced before we can leave. We are supposed to start our COE contract May 10th in Minnasota. However, we could be sitting here until June before they die so Prayers are in orders. We need to keep this job. Then we went on to the VA to drop off one of Bob's hearing aids for repair. He cracked it all the way around during his NM fall and has been without it ever since. And then it was on to the tag and license office to get his handicap placard renewed. It had expired in February along with our tags but we were able to get them by mail order but not the placard. There was no problem getting it now.

Thursday was our day to drive to Fayette (about 60 miles) and visit the dentist. We both got our cleanings and check-ups done and I got my referral to a specialist here in Tuscaloosa to get my root canal done which they will be doing this afternoon. Not looking forward to that. On Friday, Bob's brother and sister-in-law drove down from Fayette (they were out of town when we were there the day before) and we all went out to lunch then came back to the RV and had a real nice visit together. Finally, Saturday was a stay at home day which we spent trying to get some cleaning done.

Sunday, of course was Easter, and we went to church as we always do on Sunday. Then some friends from church had invited us over for Easter dinner so we did that and spent the afternoon just visiting with them. Sure was nice to catch up on everything since we were last here.

Well that's about our story for now so guess I will quit boring you. However, will add a few pictures that I promised to post a long time ago of the Valley of Fires in Carrizozo, NM.
Just getting ready to travel as we will be leaving here on March 27th - two weeks from today. However, now the weather is beautiful. It began yesterday and is supposed to last all week.

Oh well, here are some of the pictures from Bob that I promised to post. I'll do the ones from Three Rivers first. I'm sure it'll take more than one post to get them all in so will do Valley of Fires on a later post.
Yes that's the outcome on Bob's wrist. They X-rayed it again this past Tuesday and the verdict was that he did have a fractured bone in his wrist. The doctor thinks everything looks good and that it will heel satisfactorily without putting it in an actual cast. He has to continue to wear a stablizing splint and not use the wrist - no lifting or pulling, etc. He can use the fingers but very lightweight. We have to go back to have it X-rayed again on Monday, Mar. 26th. The doctor wanted him to come on Tuesday, Mar. 27th, but we explained that was leaving day so he'll be going on Monday afternoon. Let's hope all is healed so we don't have to locate another orthopaedic doctor in Tuscaloosa when we get back there to continue his care. Oh well, life goes on!

We had a bad sand storm yesterday. They are something to experience. The wind blew hard and it was full of sand. The visibility was only about one mile and that's not much here in the desert of Tularosa Basin. The Sacramento mountains are only about 2 miles away and we normally have a beautiful view of them. We literally could not see them yesterday. It is still very, very windy today buy at least the sky is clear. And you can breathe without inhaling sand.

We have done no sightseeing this week so there's really nothing to tell about. I did our taxes and am very proud of me. I used Turbo Tax and not only did the federal but all three of the state returns I needed to do. There's only one of the state returns that I'm a little leary about and that is Kentucky. They do not allow non-resident returns to be e-filed and some of the questions asked in regards to that return were not clear. I guess I'll find out how I did sooner or later. Bob worked (one-handed) on the auxillary fuel tank he is trying to get installed on the truck before we leave. Coming out here we came across a section of Texas desert where we really got paranoid about running out of fuel and of course there's no phone service in those areas either. We're wondering about getting that new Wilson adapter for the truck before we leave here. Better get on with it if we're going too but haven't priced one yet to see if that makes one prohibitive..

We ask everyone to please continue to Pray for Bob's arm to heal and for us to stay focused on our purpose - seeking God's will in our lives as we travel these United States.

So long for now!

P.S. Still haven't received pictures from Bob to post showing last week's journeys.Bob and Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15276284334125524020noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3859866159554500761.post-83937153810822206092012-03-04T17:32:00.000-08:002012-03-04T17:32:47.446-08:00Bob's FallI know I promised to post at least once a week but last week was kind of helter-skelter.
Last Saturday, Feb. 25th, abt 6:00 PM, just before closing the office, Bob took a tumble off the porch down the steps (5) to the ground. I saw him fall and it scared me to death. Luckily I was able to help him get up and he went on to finish his last chore before going home. He skinned up the left side of his face and hurt his left wrist along with breaking his hearing aid in his right ear. It cracked all the way around. So, he did tumble hitting both sides as he rolled down the steps.

We spent Sunday afternoon in the Emergency Room in the local hospital here and the doctors there thought his wrist had a fractured bone in it. They put a splint on it to stabilize it and told him he needed to see an orthopaedic doctor. He really suffered with it until we saw the doctor on Tuesday morning. It was swollen really bad and the doctor said he had a lot of arthritis in the wrist which he had severely aggravated. Due to this he could not make a decision on whether or not there was a fracture. He put a brace on his wrist and wants him to go back this coming Tuesday for another Xray after the swelling has subsided. So, I guess we'll find out Tuesday if it is fractured. However, Bob told him right up front that we were leaving here in 4 weeks which will be 3 weeks on this coming Tuesday.

Yes, its hard to believe that our time here is almost over. Life here is quite different but we are ready to get out of the wind and find some humidity.

While he couldn't do much of anything else, on Wednesday we went out sightseeing to see some of the places we hadn't gotten to yet. We went up to the "Three Rivers" monument. It is located on BLM land about 25 miles north of here and is where they have tons of drawings on the rocks which were done by the Indians over 600 years ago. It was quite interesting and we did about half of the climb and walk thru these rocks. Coming back down off the ridge, it was Judy who fell this time. She stepped down on loose gravel and sat down on a rock. Most of all it just hurt her pride but she did have a sore butt the rest of the day as well as torn pants. After that we drove on up to Carizozo about another 20 or 25 miles to visit the Valley of Fires which is also on BLM land. Here there are acres of volcanic rock which just erupted up out of the ground for about 225 square miles. There was no volcano - the lava just started bubbling up and they think it continued for about 30 years. Here they had a nice 3/4 mile paved walk out over some of this lava rock. Then, we stopped in Carizozo on our way home and ate supper. All in all we had a nice day.

I didn't have my phone out with me because my pants didn't have a pocket so no pictures. Bob did take a bunch so if and when he gets around to sending some of them to me I'll post them here for everyone to see. Things are hard to visualize unless you have something to base things on.

Well that's about it. Please Pray for his doctor's visit Tuesday that he will get a good report.

Thanks,

Well hello everyone. We finally made the trip out to White Sands Monument. Oh was it worth the time. It was one of those things that you cannot describe. It has to be seen to feel the impact of all those sand dunes - in the desert no less. One of the locals told me that they have the prettiest beach in the US, just no water to go with it. Actually, it is not sand, but gypsum (the stuff sheetrock is made of). However, it has been blown so much by the wind that it is so fine in the dunes that it really feels like sand. And it goes on for miles and you see the mountains in the background between dunes. It's just amazing. We took a lot of pictures but like most wonders of the world, they don't start to do justice to the sight. It was totally overwhelming. Will try not to bore you but here are some pictures:

We absolutely did nothing but cleaning and shopping. Of course we worked our two days on Friday and Saturday.

Our youngest son was supposed to fly out Saturday to spend the weekend with us but his flight got cancelled due to bad weather. They had a later flight for that day but it was already booked so his trip got cancelled. We were sure disappointed. Had planned to go back to the Mexican Restaurant with him that we had been taken to the week before. And, we were going to White Sands on Sunday afternoon. So, we had hamburgers for supper and napped Sunday afternoon.

Planning on going to White Sands tomorrow if nothing happens. Our time is drawing short here and there are lots of things still to see and do. Will take pictures to put on our next post.

So, we really have nothing to write today. Just wanted to stay in touch with everyone who follows us. And soon, we'll be traveling again. We're looking at March 20th for our departure date.

Until later with pictures,
Besides cleaning our living area carpet, we went to two musseum.

On Tuesday afternoon we visited the Otero County Museum located at the Visitor's Center and by the Chamber of Commerce. It was a real nice free little museum which covered some of the history of this area. Old timers called it inhabitable - the land of cracked skin - with nothing here but cactus and rattlesnacks plus no water.

Then Thursday we went to the New Mexico Space Museum. It tooks us four hours to do it all including the IMAX theatre and the Planetarium show. It was all really nice. The museum is four stories with lots of space history - lots of it taking place right here in southern New Mexico. At the IMAX theatre they were showing the documentary, "Everest". It was about a group of people climbing Mt. Everest. Personally I think they were a little crazy. Then we also saw the Planetarium show on the planets. Everything was all very good. There is alot of outside exhibition stuff which we didn't really have time to explore. I guess we'll have to go back another day and do that. You can see this stuff without having to pay again. It was a very enjoyable afternoon.

Then last night, the owners of the park here took us out to eat at a very nice Mexican restaurant. We ate things we had never had before. The food was very good and the evening very enjoyable. James and Cindy are really great people and if you're ever out this way stop and spend a night or two with them - Boot Hill RV resort between Alamogordo and Tularosa.

It is hard to believe that our time is almost half over here. And our list of things to see and do is still very long. However, we do not believe that the dry climate here agrees us. We're actually missing the humidity back east. We both have fingers cracked open and they're sore. I have my right thumb and that makes it difficult to type.

So, until next time ----
We didn't do any sightseeing this week so their really isn't much to write about. We kind of just stayed home - Judy did some cleaning and Bob did some repairing. Living full time in an RV is just like living in a house. They have to be cleaned and there is always something that needs to be fixed. But, oh how we love the freedom of having our home on wheels. We are actually working today as our days are Friday and Saturday. There are 3 workamping couples here and we each do two days with the office being closed on Sunday. That tells you something about the owners. They're really nice and this is a great, clean park.

There are so many things out here that we want to see and do that we are having a hard time setting our priorities to be sure we get the most important things in before we leave. However, we will be here until the latter part of March. We may just have to toss a coin each week. Weather permitting, I think we are going to go to White Sands this next week on our day out.

I've got to share that I woke up this morning thinking about those dreary, all day rainy days in Alabama. Sure wish we could have one of those here. I'd love to wrap up in a blanket, stay inside and read all day. It just doesn't rain here. I think we have had one rain in a month and it was at night. Water is precious here in the basin.

The phone is really ringing with people checking on availability. Looks like I'm going to get really busy this afternoon. They'll probably all arrive at 5:45 and the office is supposed to close at 6:00. Oh well, the business is good. Maybe we'll fill up the park tonight.

Guess I better stop and start getting myself prepared for what appears is going to be a rush.

Later, JudyBob and Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15276284334125524020noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3859866159554500761.post-74477967493695583672012-01-27T14:06:00.000-08:002012-01-27T14:06:00.682-08:00Beautiful ViewsThis week we took another trip up to Cloudcroft and then took another highway that took us to Ruidosa. The views were absolutely gorgeous. Had a great lunch at a Mexican restaurant their called Le Hacienda. It had snowed the night before up there so we saw alot of snow. However, the road was cleared but snow was piled on the side.

Yesterday we were out again for Judy to get a haircut and we saw a man riding a longhorn cow. Couldn't believe it so had to get some pictures. So be sure to look at all the pictures below:
Our work is not hard and it's only 2 days per week. And, Judy is not busy all day so she can carry our paperwork, etc., into the office with her so that saves on what she has to do when off. She just has to be there in case someone comes in. So she now has a new laptop and is portable with her computer.

Thursday we rode up to Cloudcroft. It is up in the mountains east of us and is at just over 8000 feet high. The trip up and back was breathtaking at times. And, I say that in more ways than one - the view and looking down over the side of the mountains from the truck. There was snow up there and it is only 16 miles up from Alamogordo. We took a bunch of pictures but they're not downloaded yet. Soon, I'm going to shock everyone and do a posting of just pictures taken since we have arrived here.

We have mountains on both sides of the basin here - part of the Rockies. I was not aware they came this far south but they do. The ones to the east which are actually in our back door are called the Sacramento Mtns. Of course these are very rocky and barren but when you get way up there, many are covered in evergreen trees (and snow). When we were up there this week, we could see the white sands between us and the mtns. on the west side which are a little farther away. We can stand outside our RV and see mountains in both directions - east and west.

Life is great,
We are volunteering 2 days a week for a campground, Boothill RV Resort so hope to have plenty of time for sightseeing and rest once we're caught up.

Amazon and Kentucky were terrible. We won't make that mistake again. On our way here from there we detoured back thru Alabama for Bob to see a doctor. The report was good so here we are. Had some truck problems on our way but made it all the way and that is now fixed. We stopped at the Ford place in Lubbock, TX to attempt to have the truck repaired. They wanted $2,000 so Bob told them to put a bandaid on and he was going to Alamagordo. It made it here and the repair was $200. That is quite a big difference.

Boothill is a nice campground and if you are ever through here. The owners are wonderful and thanks to him, we found the garage that fixed the truck. We got here on January 3rd and have mostly just been getting ourselves familiarized with the town and catching up from working at Amazon. Have tried the locally grown pistachio nuts and they were wonderful. Can't wait to stop and get some more. Will take some pictures of the groves and post here. Judy has taken a few pictures but haven't gotten them downloaded yet. Will get that done next week and post.

We don't promise to post daily but will post at least weekly while we are here. We thank our followers for being patient during times of no posting. Hope you will continue to follow us thru our journeys. God has been good to us and we know he will continue to be as we journey thru this beautiful country of ours.

That's all for now,
JudyBob and Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15276284334125524020noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3859866159554500761.post-52211377245104613252011-11-17T11:40:00.000-08:002011-11-17T11:40:33.288-08:00Rain and ColdWell folks it has rained for the last two days. Yesterday it rained continuously without a break. And today, although there is some sunshine it is cold. There is some wind and it just cuts right thru you. I had to walk the dog earlier so I experienced it. She may get a very short walk tonight.

Bob is still not working. We are still waiting for the doctor's form to be sent back to Amazon. With any luck, it will get finished up this afternoon. Let's hope, hope hope! And let's also hope the doctor doesn't mess him up. If he doesn't get to work we may need to find out how to apply for foodstamps. Anybody know? No, I'm kidding. We'll make it but we'll sure have to tighten the belt. We put 4 new tires on the rig last month and our RV/Truck insurance is due the first part of January. Between the two, money is taking a bit hit.

Not much going on right now. I'm off today. I work 4 five hour shifts with 3 days off. This is my 3rd day so it's back to work for me tomorrow. Then Sunday, I will start to work 4 ten hour shifts with 3 days off. That will last until overtime kicks in and then it will be 5 ten hour shifts with 2 days off. Oh well, need the money as I already explained.

So long for now. Hopefully will get some pictures taken eventually. I think I'm going to pick up a good book and start to reading.

Later, JudyBob and Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15276284334125524020noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3859866159554500761.post-58771450060472777032011-11-13T10:53:00.000-08:002011-11-13T10:53:06.562-08:00AmazonWell everyone I swear I did a post since the last one showing. Guess I didn't. Well the parts did arrive and we got our RV fixed good as new. It was done at Sunshine RV and Trailer in Sheperdsville, KY. They really went out of the way to make sure we met our date at Amazon. We got there on a Monday and left there on Saturday. And, they did really good work. So, if you other RVers are passing thru there and need some work done, stop by and visit them. They did us right. We even parked in their parking lot while we there.

So we actually arrived in Campbellsville 6 days early but that's better than late. This extra time gave us a chance to get "home" set up and rest a little. We did make a day trip up to Bardstown, KY and visited with Bob's sister, neice and her husband. It was a Sunday so we went really early and went to church at the Bascilica there. It sure was pretty and we had a good service experience.

On Nov 7th we started with Amazon. They had a "meet and greet" for us that day along with sandwiches and other refreshments. We met other workampers starting with us, got our shift and department assignments and learned our schedules, etc. Then the next day we spent the day in orientation and safety school. On Wednesday, we did job training - both in the classroom and on the floor. Thought things were really going well. However, they have strict security here when you leave the building so if you have any metal implants you have to apply for a waiver for the metal detector. Well, Bob has an Implanted Cardiac Defibilator so he gave them his verification card for them to copy, etc.

On Thursday, we went in to work and were promptly escorted to the HR office. They are all worked up because he has a heart defibulator and they're afraid he shouldn't be working in their warehouse environment. He's not operating a welder or a weedeater so there really isn't a problem. Guess this is something they are not familiar with. Anyway, they sent him back home and wouldn't let him work. They supposedly faxed a form to his doctor in Tuscaloosa for completion and when they get this back a determination will be made as to whether he will be allowed to work. So right now, it is just me working and it could end up being that way for the time we are here. Needless to say, he is upset.

We are staying at Heartland RV Park and can see Amazon from it. Therefore, the plan is to walk back and forth to work like we did at Adventureland. So far, the park has had one covered dish supper which we attended and met some other people and we stayed and played "Card Bingo". It was our first time to ever play this game but we had a lot of fun and laughs. They are planning a Thanksgiving dinner for us on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The park will be furnishing the turkey and all the eating supplies with each camper bringing a dish. They're even having two serving times to accomodate everyone - both night and day shifts. We're on night shift so our time to eat will be at 3:30 PM. Yum, Yum, Good!

The weather here is a little chilly and I have a feeling it is going to get colder. Not exactly the 72 degrees we said we were going to maintain. We understand that last year they had snow and an ice storm while the workampers were here. There's also been a lot of wind since we've been here. Bob said the wind here is jut preparing us for the wind in New Mexico when we get there - blows all the time. We should be there sometime between Jan 5th and Jan 10th. Will have to go back thru Tuscaloosa on the way for Bob to see his cardiologist. These doctors can be a problem sometimes.

Well, not much else to say. There's really not alot going on. Will keep you informed about what happens between Bob and Amazon.

Later,
We are currently sitting at Sunshine RV & Trailer in Shepherdsville, KY waiting on our parts to arrive. As soon as they do, our RV will be next to be worked on and hopefully get us to Campbellsville, KY to work for Amazon by Nov. 4th. They have provided 30 AMP electrical hook-up for us and filled our tank with water. However, the waste holding tanks are a big concern for us. Let's hope we make it. Have figured out how to conserve the gray but the "black" is another question.

We left Tuscaloosa, AL on October 23rd, spent the night at Wallyworld Campground in Fayetteville, TN and then came on into where we are on Monday. And, here we sit.
Nothing much else going on.

We have pretty much used up our internet plan for the current month so will not be posting again until Nov. 9th when a new month starts. Will try to catch up on everything at that time.

Later, JudyBob and Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15276284334125524020noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3859866159554500761.post-68067255137739965052011-10-22T12:40:00.000-07:002011-10-22T12:40:05.653-07:00Folks, We are still alive!!!Yes, everyone, we are still alive. Will try to catch you up on this blog in a short summary.

We left Iowa on Septemeber 27th and ended up in Branson, MO on September 29th after a one night stop in Sedalia, MO. Spent five nights at Branson and saw three shows. We're cheapskates so the shows were not named stars, just little tributes. However, they were very good and we enjoyed them very much. We saw "Tribute to Marty Robbins", "Tribute to John Denver", and "Tribute to Hank Williams, Sr.". Bob liked the last one best and I liked the first one best. We never like the same thing. The only pictures we took were of some of the shows so won't bore you with them. While there, Bob noticed that we had a tire on the RV wearing significantly. This alarmed him but he decided we could make it on to our next stop, Dumas, AR. While traveling he stopped and checked the tire several times and said that he thought it would be fine. During this leg of our trip we came thru the Ozark Mountains and realized how beautiful they really were. I got a couple of good pictures which I will try to post at a later time.
Can't seem to locate them today.

We made it to Dumas where we spent 3 nights on the Arkansas River. For those of you who have followed us from the beginning, you may remember that we stayed there a week (without cell phone service) on our journey up to Iowa. Nice little campground but no sewer hookup. After checking the tire again, Bob was confident that we should be all right to go all the way in to Tuscaloosa, Al before dealing with tires. So, on Thursday, October 6th, we left Arkansas for Jackson, MS to spend some time with our youngest son. We had a great visit with him and I have a couple of pictures from there that were taken when we met the parents of his deceased significant other for lunch.

Then, on Sunday, October 9th, we left Jackson completely confident that our tire would be O.K. Well guesswhat! It wasn't. About 50 miles west of Tuscaloosa on I-20 there was a loud explosion and we had suffered a blow out. Had to pull off and call AAA and consequently were delayed until after dark getting in to Deerlick Creek campground and into our campsite. If any of you have ever been there, then you know what that must have been like. Not fun!! Besides the delay, we suffered damage to our RV. I have pictures and have posted them below.

Since arriving in Tuscaloosa, it has been one doctor's appointment after another. We have had two free days since arriving - Monday, Oct. 10th and Wednesday, Oct.19th. Believe me we needed those to catch up at home and rest a little. Of course, you have to combine all these doctor's appointments with rig repairs. We had the truck in the shop one day to repair a power steering leak and the RV was in the alignment shop another day. We didn't want to buy tires until we knew all the alignment, etc, was in good condition. And, then we had to have tires put on the RV. They had to be ordered so we spent one night in the Tire store parking lot. But all worked out and we now have 4 new tires on the fifth wheel. Hope we're good to go.

We were supposed to have left T-town yesterday but when Bob saw Dr. Hill, his cardiologist, on Thursday he put a kink in things. We were just lucky that the campground had had some cancellations that morning and we were able to extend our stay two more nights. This is football game weekend. Dr. Hill is not crazy about what we are doing and I think he thinks we're crazy for doing this. Back in March before we left, he cautioned us to stay out of rural areas and stay near big cities. So, Thursday, when Bob saw him, he decided he needed to do a further test. Luckily, we were able to get it scheduled Friday morning about 8:00 AM. We were there all morning for a nuclear stress test. And, we won't get the complete results until sometime next week. However, the Nurse Practitioner called us Friday afternoon with a preliminary report that nothing had changed since they had performed this same test two years ago. Everything still looked the same. She said her "guess" was that he would order nothing further. So, we're banking that is what will happen and we will be leaving tomorrow for KY. We need to get the tire blow out damage to our RV fixed before we start to work for Amazon.com on Nov. 6th. No one in the Tuscaloosa area could get this done in our time frame. But, in Kentucky they can. Don't really understand the difference but the shop in Kentucky is getting the work. If we have misguessed Dr. Hill, then we'll deal with that at that time. After all, God is in charge, not us. And when I refer to luck, I really mean God.

The park closed daily operations on August 21st so have only been working weekends since.

After Amana Colonies which is a previous post, we went to the Omaha, Nebraska Zoo on a chartered bus with other Adventureland Workampers. It was a long trip but we enjoyed it. However, we thought the food was a little expensive. Two hamburgers with fries cost us $20.00 inside the zoo. After we left the zoo we went downtown to the "old market district" where we split up and had dinner. The group we ate with ended up at a restaurant called "Stokes". Again, we thought it a little pricey except for the $2.99 margaritas which most of us indulged in. After all, no one was driving. Here is a picture of the group and also of Bob enjoying himself. Sorry about the pictures being a little blurred.

Bob is having a good time!

Then, we went with the Adventureland group sponsored trip to Prairie Meadows, a horse racing track across from our campground. We had the enclosed trackside pavillion ad they served us Hamburgers or Brats with Potato Salid, Baked Beans and all the trimmings. We even had our own private wage taker. I even got to be in a picture at the Winner's Circle. Bob and I didn't do so well with our bets. Horse race betting is not for us. It was quarterhorse racing and I learned that the reason they are called quarterhorses is because they run for a quarter of a mile. Anyway it only cost us about $20.00 so not bad for an evening out. Sorry, but I don't have any pictures.

Today, Bob and I drove over to Winterset, Iowa, where we found 5 of the 6 covered bridges that are still standing. These are "The Bridges of Madison County" book and movie. We really enjoyed it but they all looked just alike except for their length and their surroundings. We also found the "Stone Schoolhouse" which was build in the 1800's. For lunch we went downtown to the Northside Cafe (across from the courthouse) wich was built in 1876 in the same location it is still operating. The food was not good. Or, at least what we ordered wasn't. Maybe we ordered the wrong things. Anyway, our recommendation is if you ever get there just to go by and see the cafe and find somewhere else to eat. If all the food was like ours how have they suvived all these years. And, we also rode by the "Birthplace of John Wayne". Really had a great day. Below are some picures which we took.

In between having fun, we have been busy cleaning and repairing and getting ready to "Hitch-up" probably on Sept. 27th. It's cold here. The high today was in the low 50's so it's time to go south.
Later, JudyBob and Judyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15276284334125524020noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3859866159554500761.post-50184288829478686652011-08-26T16:57:00.000-07:002011-08-26T16:57:19.669-07:00Amana ColoniesYesterday we drove the approx. 80 miles to the Amana Colonies. This is a group of 7 villages which were German communes. They hold the record for the longest lasting communes in the U.S. They owned 25,000 acres of land and were a religious group which migrated from Germany.

The history there is very interesting but we were disappointed in the existing villages - no longer communes but stock holder owned. They have become more or less tourist traps like other tourist areas with the same stuff being sold in their stores and wineries.

We did have a great German lunch at Ronnie's which is one of the original German communal kitchens. However, it has been upgraded and decorated to appeal to the tourist. I had saurbraten served with kraut, pan fried potatoes and the best green beans I have ever eaten. I had a luncheon platter but it was enough to feed a horse. Bob had a German sandwich with french fries. He wasn't as daring as I. We ate at Ronneburgs and I have a picture below.

We mainly visited the main colony of Amana but drove thru 5 of the others with a stop in Homestead. We actually only missed one colony - East Amana.

We took the interstate over but came back on old US Highway 6. We wanted to see east Iowa as it realy was. That being, one corn field after another with an alfalfa field occasionally thrown in. I am amazed at how neat and clean the farms are. Nothing like we are used to in Alabama.

The architecture in the colonies was interesting and we enjoyed seeing the old buildngs that are still there.

When we got home, we stopped at "The Big Steer" and picked up ribs to go. Oh was it delicious. I bet I gained 10 pounds yesterday. Today, we have done not much of anything. I put out fealers for a winter and a summer camp host or workamping job.

Well that's about it. We will be working the next two days so won't post again until Monday.
We are down to weekends only now. There were times when we didn't think we would make it so think long and hard before you commit to a summer here. August 21st ended the daily park hours and were we glad to get to stop working 6 days a week.

Our last day of work here will be Sept. 25th and we will be leaving the next day, Sept. 26th - at least sometime that day. We are hoping to do a little sightseeing now that we have time. Tomorrow Bob and I are planning a day trip to the Amana Colonies, if all goes well. Next week we are going to the Omaha Zoo on a bus trip sponsored by Adventureland. In between we are trying to catch up on stuff that is way behind. I actually defrosted the freezer and cleaned out the refrigerator today.

A couple of weeks ago, we actually went over to the park as guests (free to us). Rode two or three rides but mostly had corn dogs and a funnel cake. We did take a few pictures so they are posted below. We won't be posting again until Friday, so enjoy.
We promised to get back to posting more often. So, here we are.

Bob got banged up in a work accident last Sunday night. He was working on the sky lift unloading riders when a 7 year old little girl riding alone didn't listen to her instructions. As she got off the chair she went right but after her chair had gotten by decided to run across the turn around area of the ride right in front of an incoming chair. So Bob and his co-worker took off after her and were both knocked down by the ride. The little girl was saved but both of them suffered injuries. Bob was the lucky one as he was knocked out of the path of the chair but did sustained an ugly skinned up knee. The other knee was skinned as well as an arm and shoulder pain. But he is O.K. His co-worker was knocked unconsious and remained unconsious for several minutes as he was knocked down in front of the ride and it went over him. He was hauled off by an ambulance. He did suffer a concussion but was just treated in the ER and released with a list of things to watch for.

Yesterday was our off day, so we did go to the casino for breakfast but didn't hang around. We left. Bob had been at the doctor's office for fasting blood work prior to breakfast so we pigged out with the food. It's very good there and so cheap. For seniors it is only $4.50 each and that includes our coffee as well as Bob's orange juice.

We both got hair cuts as we were tired of the shaggy dog look, stopped at a vegetable stand and then Wal Mart. At the veg truck we bought fresh "Grimes" sweet corn, a large cantalope grown here in Iowa as well as some tomatoes. We ate some of all of it for supper last night. Sure was good. Bob had been craving an Alabama vegetable plate. Wasn't quite that but good anyway. Haven't seen any okra here nor back-eyed peas. Did find some yellow squash at Wal Mart but no idea where it was grown. And bought black-eyed peas frozen by "McKenzies".

I spent some time last night visiting with our next door neighber. We work different shifts and in different departments so we seldom see each other. Spent about an hour last night sitting out and catching up - At least she and I did. Sure was nice. They are full timers from Oklahoma.

This morning we've been lazy. Fixing to eat lunch and start getting ready for work. We work 3:40 PM till 9:00 PM. It's overcast here today so hope it stays that way.

Hope all is well out there in "reader land". Later,

We are working and working. Got 4 more weeks before the park goes back to weekends only. Looking forward to that. Don't think we'll try this again. But, that's what this is about - seeing new signts and experiencing new things. Believe me this is an experience. Didn't know we were so sheltered back in Alabama. This has been an eye opener.

Did go back for breakfast at the Casino last Tuesday but this time we decided to give the slots a try. Bob did good but I lost all he won. Oh well, don't need to do that again.

I have finally taken some pictures, just a few, of the campground here.

That's about it for now. Until later,
I just haven't been able to keep up with life lately. We're still at Adventureland Amusement Park and working our "butts" off. We are working six days per week for about 35 to 37 hours per week. The agreement was 32 hours so we're starting to request a day off each week. That will put us at 5 days per week for 32 to 35 hrs per week. We are so tired that we can't force ourselves to do anything - just work. Yesterday was our day off and we did go across the road to the Casino for senior breakfast day. We had a great breakfast for $4.50 each and then promptly left. We actually found a mall, too. I needed some new shoes. Mission was accomplised.

Since we last posted, we had a death in the family in June and had to take a week off and make a trip to Jackson, MS. That was a tough trip and I think the energy loss from that trip is part of our problem of being so tired now. I don't think we've gotten over that yet.

It's time to get ready to go to work, so guess I had better scoot.

Will try to start doing better with my posts.
Just working alot of hours as the park is shorthanded right now. They are short about 50 to 75 workampers this year so they're having to fill in with local students who are just now getting out of school. We started to work here last Saturday, May 21st. Last Saturday and Sunday we just worked our regular shifts for now from 1:40 PM until 6. And then, came Monday and the double shifts. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday we worked what is called a double shift which is 9:40 AM until 6:00 PM. You work 4 hours on one ride and then change to your regular ride at 2:00 PM. Friday finally came and we were OFF. Believe me it was none too soon. This Saturday and Sunday, the PM shift is working 1:40 until 9:00 PM. Tomorrow the PM goes back to the 6:00 PM ending time but we'll probably we asked to work doubles again. Hopefully not, we're tired.

Judy (me) took a bad fall yesterday. I fell into the log fume river while the logs were moving and the belt was turning. I've got to start remembering that I have a "bum" foot/ankle and can't do everything other people can do when it comes to my foot. I scared everybody to death that was working with me but I'm O.K. except for being sore and bruised in several places.

To make matters worse, I already had a sore arm with a big bruise from working on the Sky ride. I'm just a mess!

Bob has been working the Galion and operating it by himself. We've also worked the Sky lift during the morning and I've ran the kiddie ride, "Red Baron". He has also assisted on the "Silo". I worked on the roller coaster ride called the "Dragon" one morning but it was down for maintenance so all I did that morning was sit on a park bench by the entrance and tell people it was closed for now. I'd like to have another morning like that one.

So, there's not much going on with us right now. We're planning to try to do some more sightseeing on our next day off. We had to catch up our shopping this past Friday and I had to get a hair cut. I won't need one of those again for awhile. She scalped me. I literally look like a man. Won't go there again.

However, we are still enjoying ourselves and loving the RV lifestyle. Will try not to go so long before posting again.
